Dunham Massey (1)

Dunham Massey, near Altrincham, was built in the 1730s by George Booth, the 2nd Earl of Warrington. On his death it passed to his only child Mary, the wife of Harry Grey, the 4th Earl of Stamford.

It remained in the Grey family until the death of Roger, the 10th Earl, in 1976. He never married, and bequeathed the house, with the surrounding gardens and deer park, to the National Trust.

During the First World War Dunham Massey became the Stamford Military Hospital, offering care and convalescence to injured soldiers.
