Crich (3)
On Crich Hill, overlooking the village, is Crich Stand, the memorial to the Sherwood Foresters
and Mercian Regiment.
The earliest record of a tower here is from 1760, and there have been various replacements over
the years. This one was built shortly after the First World War as a memorial to the fallen of the
Sherwood Foresters; its commemoration now extends to later conflicts and other regiments with
which the Sherwood Foresters have merged.
At night a light shines from it which is visible across the counties from which the Sherwood
Foresters traditionally recruited.
